COMPASS is celebrating 50 years of service to youth and families. Each week, we've been sharing great memories that have helped shape our organization.
GROWTH of COMMUNITY SERVICES
In 1988, COMPASS started a partnership with five Department of Social Services (DSS) offices in Boston, later named the Department of Children and Families (DCF), to provide “outreach and tracking” of involved youth. This was the beginning of today’s Community Services program.
Today, the COMPASS Community Services program continues to utilize a trauma-oriented, strength-based approach to provide comprehensive services to individuals and families referred by DCF and DDS. We have offices in Dorchester, Lawrence, and Worcester, and are currently working with 18 DCF and 5 DDS area offices.
The Community Services program incorporates three distinct sub-programs: Comprehensive Support and Stabilization (CSS), Developmental Services (DDS), and the EAST Project. COMPASS Family Specialists and Clinicians work to develop, support, and strengthen the skills that individuals and families need to provide a safe and supportive environment for themselves and their children.

Awesome
What a day! Carrying those computers with 3 amazing people -Peg Savage, Ann Carol Malone and Yvonne Vest into our new home in Jamaica Plain. The great Boston Globe writer Jack Thomas wrote the piece which appeared in the Sunday Learning Section of the Globe. Side story - The developer Joe Corcoran who was beginning to transform the Columbia Point Housing Project into Harbor Point. He read the piece, called me and asked COMPASS to start an after school program for students who lived in Harbor Point. This was so Joe Corcoran, he was always looking forward! Of course, he provided the seed money to get COMPASS at Harbor Point off the ground.

COMPASS is celebrating 50 years of service to youth and families. Please enjoy our journey down memory lane as so many events have helped shape our organization.
The year 1987 was a busy one at COMPASS. The COMPASS School held its first Violence Prevention Ceremony, resulting from the murder of a former student. This program was designed to educate students on how to stay safe during the summer months. COMPASS also moved operations to Jamaica Plain at the former Blessed Sacrament School. In late 1987, COMPASS began the Harbor Point Program in Boston, which provided an after-school program for students of the Dever School, which ran until 1999.
Our 50th year is off to a wonderful start with so much more in store. To learn more about COMPASS, please visit us at www.compassboston.org.

COMPASS is celebrating 50 years of service to youth and families. Join us on this journey down memory lane as we reflect on the incredible moments that have helped shape our organization.
In 1984, David Manzo was named the 4th Executive Director of the organization. Due to economic turmoil and financial hardships, the organization only had 8 employees. In late 1984, the organization was renamed to Community Providers of Adolescent Services, or COMPASS.
Dave recently wrote an article about COMPASS that was published in the March 6 edition of the Dorchester Reporter Newspaper titled - Hailing a Treasure: COMPASS at 50.

Dave Manzo retired from COMPASS in 2004 and has been a board member for 20 years.

Great article! 👏
Such a WONDERFUL article.. I feel extremely blessed to have been there in the early years.. YOU, Tim Ott and so many others taught me by example true dedication. The risks and decisions YOU made is why we are still here today. In those short weeks I learned (and have never forgotten) what makes COMPASS special. . I will never forget that day we lost so many of our "work family" to lay offs and really believed COMPASS would end on the last day of school.... WHO KNEW.. 🙂 Thank you Dave for being the strong foundation that led to today.. <3
God bless
Prayers ♥️ ♥️
God bless you
Very nice 👍

COMPASS recognizes Community Services Family Specialist - Jenn Negron, for her quick thinking and heroic actions.
On Wednesday, Jenn found herself in a situation that required immediate action, and she did not hesitate to respond.
While driving, she noticed a two-year-old child walking on a busy street unaccompanied in a local community in Massachusetts. Without a second thought, Jenn placed her car in a position that blocked both lanes of traffic to protect the child from harm.
She then picked up the child, called the police, and stayed with the child while another person moved her car to the side of the road. Thanks to her quick actions, the child was safely reunited with their mother shortly after.
Jenn's actions exemplify the values of compassion, quick thinking, and dedication that we all strive for. Her bravery and willingness to act in a challenging situation are truly commendable.
Please join all of uCOMPASSMPASS in honoring Jenn Negron as a Hero Among Us. She is a shining example of commitment to the safety and well-being of our clients and community. We are thankful to have Jenn as a part ofCOMPASSMPASS fami#50yearscompassstrongtrong ... See MoreSee Less
